I can\'t get a bead on this dress~

I first thought 70's, then when I was taking pictures it kind of struck me as maybe older. The shirring on the waist tie and the pattern don't feel '70's' to me - but that doesn't mean anything~

No label, feels like a synthetic crepe.
The floral fabric is quite sheer and it is lined in the same fabric in navy.

Help?!?!

I think it is mid 70s. Those sleeves and hanky hem
are almost identical to a dress I had at the time. Not the fabric so much, but the style is very Stevie Nicks inspired.

Apart from the hankie hem and sleeves, it could be early '40s.

To tell the difference, you need to differentiate polyester from rayon crepe, and look at the construction. I take it that it wraps around, so there aren't any zippers - are the seams overlocked? Any sign of shoulder pads? What is the hem like? They did use handkerchief hems in earlier eras, or it could have been altered. It's quite nice!

That's what I think was throwing me Nicole - the seams aren't serged, and although they're solid and strong, the seam allowance is fraying. It feels like poly but I'll do a burn test and make sure so I can at least describe it as accurately as possible.

The "fluttery" sleeves and hankie hem are just so late 70's and it doesn't appear to have been altered.
