I cracked and bought a..

Of course I don't mind. They are pretty expensive in the UK - rrp is £299.00 so this is a cheapy ex display and I am hoping it doesn't blow up (currently in use !). This one was £150, but if it saves me scalded hands and an aching arm it is money well spent in my opinion!

I think you can get them much cheaper overseas though, my Mum said she saw a few cheap on ebay.com. Shall let you know if I would recommend it first though, in about 20 minutes!

OK - I am experimenting. It comes with these clip on weight things which I think are essential. I steamed a full skirted cotton dress without and it came out smelling very clean and fresh but wasn't as good as with me steaming it.

Used them on a very wrinkly acetate lining and it worked really well...

I need to give it a few days but the fact that I have edited about 100 photos while it steamed them is looking like a big positive! :)

Well, I am loving the fact that it removes odours! I bought the most gorgeous new look coat that smelt like it had been somewhere very very musty for a long time, even after I aired it. And now voila, no smells! Apparently works for cigarette odour too, so I will have to try that out as that would be brilliant, that's such a pain to try and air out.

I think for cottons you would need to buy extra weights (like big bulldog clips that you use to pull the material taught while it steams) as with the full skirted dress it fluffed it up a lot and was less creased but not as good as a hot iron by any means. I think just generally you need to use the weights for a noticeable result.

I did a velvet dress that arrived this morning, and didn't want to atttach the clips as they would press the velvet, but it revived the pile quite well without.

I think a 7/10 for decreasing thicker fabrics, good on cashmere and acetate etc, and a 8.5 or 9/10 for odour removal!

HTH :)

Actually, let me do a before and after.

OK, I shall steam this avec the machine in a bit. You'll have to wait 'til tomorrow for the after I'm afraid as I am a bit busy tonight..

And I am so sorry this is sideways but I am in a rush and it wouldn't rotate, lol.

Sounds pretty good, at least you don't have to hold the items while steaming them, that is a big advantage.

Looks like it will be wonderful for some items and then you might have to finish them off with your old steamer or iron, (I'm not sure what you had been using) still a great time saver though.

Well, I am pleased with it but I sadly cannot throw out my old iron or hand steamer.

It does remove wrinkles.. but for cotton dresses you will definitely not get the finish you would with an iron or even a hand steamer. Maybe I am just a bit of a perfectionist but I seem to have to go over things.

For floaty things like chiffon etc. it is super. You can also put in damp mens low-wrinkle shirts and dry them without having to iron them afterwards. If you've handwashed something you can the gently dry it in the preta porter and it does fluff it up nicely and make the finishing off easier, but still not perfect.

It is GREAT for removing odours though. Mustiness, smoke, anything really (haven't tried moth ball odour as I don't currently have anything to experiment with), and is almost worth it for that.

I have had a few faux fur and crombie coats that came from an elderly ladies house and it has been great to be able to put them through there to get rid of the whole old, slightly damp storage fustiness.

Probably a 6/10 on the wrinkles, 9/10 on all other functions. Sigh... I HATE STEAMING!!!!

My iron just packed up actually, and now I am looking at those combination iron/press things as well. I refuse to be beaten!
