I had so much fun doing the 70s - I had to do the 80s!

Good choices Jonathan - and I totally agree with the pink dress in Pretty in Pink. I almost cried when I saw how Molly Ringwald's character massacred that beautiful '50s dress!

That's a trip down memory lane for me! Great choices. I loved Earth Girls Are Easy, and Desperately Seeking Susan was a fashion moment I think.

I read something about Jennifer Beals in Flashdance having been the one who started the whole 80s cut the neck out of your sweat shirt and go off the shoulder trend. She said she just had a sweatshirt that was too tight so she cut the neck out, and before she knew it has inspired a whole fashion movement. I remember taking scissors to a lot of t-shirts in the 80s.

You are right - I am going to have to amend the list and move Flashdance up a few notches! I saw the movie when it came out in April 83 in an empty theatre. It was just about to disappear from the cinemas when word got out about the dancing and it became a smash hit. Just think - if it hadn't been for a good dance routine we would have missed the leg warmers fad!

so glad to see Pretty in Pink on the list. Was one of my favs...was in high school at time so not only for the clothes but also all of the silly teen angst!

Love "Working Girl", when Melanie's character goes through Siguorney's closet ! So amazing !
My personal 80s fav is Troop Beverly Hills... Fav quote "It's a Van Runkle !" Shelly Long is to die for taking her troop leader uniform in to be altered !

Jonathan,

thanks for all these wonderful posts.

Yes, "Flashdance" started so many fashion trends in New Jersey in the 80's! I remember tens of thousands of sighting of girls in torn off the shoulder sweatshirts, and even the stores were selling them "pre torn"! It was too much! And yes, leg warmers got another shot in the arm (or is it leg?) from that movie. In the mid 70's we wore colorful leg warmers over our jeans and always worn with tall leather Fry boots. We wore them all the way up to our "bums"! Memories....

OH...Tank Girl!! I have not thought of that movie in years. Great you included that one. What a fun ride that was~!
