I hate this dress! And I thought I loved it!

OMG!
I thought this dress was SO amazing on the rack! I got it home (though I'm not REALLY sure why I bought it, wasn't the whole point to clean out my closets?), put it on the mannequin, and now it looks like some cheap 80's dress.
I swear it isn't!
H*E*L*P!

(whispering out of earshot of the manni)

It's the legs.

You need to show it on a petite brunette...

Any way of, on this occasion, perhaps editing out the manni, to give it back its proper proportions?

If not, you never know, the buyers might like this look?

Petite Brunette reporting for duty :) ha ha

Actually, if you just crop most of the manni's legs out of the picture, it will work better. You have to be clear on this one if it is a mini dress or a knee length. i am just thinking it is not supposed to be a mini, otherwise it would be higher up on her leg. The manni's height might confuse the issue. Now, on her left leg, does the dress look rumpled because it is pulling as her leg is forward or does it not fit her well around the hips? Some may see past it if you end the photo just at her knees. The photo of her top half isn't bad at all. it looks cute from there.

Or you can do what i did before i had any sort of dress form. lay a sheet on the floor/ground, place the dress on top and stuff it with tissue paper - make sure to stuff the bust out enough, and the hips so it is 3 dimensional. Then take a photo from "above" and photo shop out the background to a solid color. If you don't have the graphics software, i can do it in one second for you. You can also use the top half photo of the manni alternating witha photo like that. Mannis are great but when you have a real tall gal some things suited for petite women just don't work as well.

Ever see "Lost in Yonkers"? Mercedes Ruehl's dresses fit her (she can technically get into them and wear them) but are really a size too small for her or are for someone shorter so don't flatter her...and then she is transformed later on and suddenly is wearing things that suit her and no longer looks gangly/appears to be wearing cheap or unflattering clothes. That is the difference sometimes from something looking "cheap" as you say and something looking flattering.

I don't know maybe its supposed to be real short but something about the skirt makes it look like its darted for a shorter gal

Phew!

Thank you Mlle Petite Brunette! I think you are so on the money, this dress was def made for someone smaller. I think what I'm going to do is put it on my other body form & see how it works - I bet it'll look alot better. As much as I love my manni, I think she's way too tall for the vintage clothing & makes everything look short :(
You know, I don't think I've seen Lost in Yonkers.. or if I have, I don't remember what she wore! Methinks I'm going to have to rent it & check that out!
Oh! And the leg is bent, so it makes the dress crinkle a bit past the knee

Thanks for all the help!

i agree, first thing i thought was that the manni was too tall for the dress, made the dress look too short. I can tell its a lovely dress though, just on someone smaller!

Oh, re: the movie. I am just remembering having been involved with costuming back when it was out. I just rembeber it was an intresting character study with the change in the way she dressed. It just reminded me of that....you commenting the dress looked "cheap" but really it just looks that way because it is on someone (the manni) who is ill fitted for it.

If you have one of those hanging forms i bet the proportions will work better.
