I need hat help! (pretty please)

I am working on a hat lot (these are the hats from the HSCC estate).

Sorry for all the questions, but unless its a fedora, I can be hat challenged at times. I am in advanced, indebted to all who take pity on me LOL

Here are my questions:
1) what would you call the style of hat in the fuschia-ish hat/purse combo that is shown? I just have NO clue.

2) What would you call the light/natural colored hat. It sits on the head the same way as the black cartwheel hat. (i have better pics of the black one from a previous thread), but I am not as sure because it is not as circular. Also my first thought was 50s, but the consumer protection label looks older for some reason to me which leads me to believe that it could be older.

(oh, and the two black ones are 50s.)

The cream hat is also late 40's, early 50's and would call this a platter or cartwheel hat. These were introduced to balance the full skirt New Look dresses, so you didn't look like a pinhead, dontcha know.

The pink velvet is very intriquing, and looks 40's, but its hard to tell from the one photo. Can we see more details of this one? How does it sit on the head? I would be inclined to sell the pink hat and purse as a set in a separate auction.

There is a little comb inside just at the top. It looks like it sits on the head the way it is on the foam head from the front shot, but may sit farther back with help of the comb. I had thought 40s too at first.

The only reason i was considering lotting it is because there is a dark mark on the back of the hat - ...if someone bids higher for all the hats together versus all as individuals (the black netted hat is in rough shape, the black one is in great shape, the light colored one as a couple small age freckles.) Unless you think the conditon is good enough to seperate. I just don't want to sit on them forever.

Since all the money is for the humane society i didn't want to spend a lot of expense in cleaning them to take away from the price i could get. (and some money is better than more money that you have to wait for perhaps ) But thats' just what i am thinking at the moment.

Given the fashion fabric ruching on the underside of the brim, I think the fuschia one is meant to be seen on the underside, so I think it should be worn pretty far back on the head with the front tilted up at a pretty good angle. The style I'm thinking of was late '30s (like '39) or early '40s, if memory serves.

I'll try to find a picture before I leave on vacation tomorrow...

Not much more to add....I have also called the wide brim ones picture hats, but usually wide brim does it best.

I've done shockingly well on hat lots, better than if they were individually listed, unless one is a collector name (Dior, Schap, Sally Victor for example).

I'm wanting to say toque on the purple one, but I'll have to look it up.

Looking through my "Vintage Hats & Bonnets" book, I didn't find the example I was looking for but it did say that "shocking pink" was introduced by Schiap in 1936 and was immediately wildly popular and seen everywhere.

Toque - i always think of Shriner hats even though I know that's a Fez!

Do I will call the natural colored one a"platter" and the black "cartwheel" so we will have people that search one or the other find them.

Colorwise, to me this is just a touch more fuschia than the Schiaperelli pink. (like just one tiny drop of purple rather than hot pink) - But i will go compare it to the Schiaparelli tie i have lined in the right pink and it could just be my eyes and being so used to shocking pink be that 80s neon pink.

I will try to find the photo i have of the underside of that one.

SO far I a working on:
40s 50s Vintage Hat Lot New Look Pink Cartwheel

Lizzie...it was just waiting for another label...that's all :)

I am still trying to figure what to call the fuschia hat...but maybe just including the word "PINK" will be enough for people to look.

You know the pink one reminds me of a few Paris inspired hats but with a usa twist and one step farther with a matching purse....hehehehehe

like them all very much.....and learned alot in the process.......:headbang:
