I found this hat in excellent condition in the original box. I have done research on the company listed on the box. Originally they were founded in 1899. In 1912 there was a 'changing of the guard' and they went from McNeal & Edwards to McNeal & Edwards Co. and in 1924 or 1925 they were doing business here in Clarksville, TN. It has a union label inside but I can't make all of it out. I have asked several people I know but have been un able to get a general consensus. Any help would be most appreciated.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your hat with us. It dates from the 1960s, and I would say the early half of the decade. The box is lovely, and while the fabulous graphics on top of the box look early 20th century, the hat box is done in a revival style. The square shape is a good clue, as previous to the 1950s, almost all ladies hat boxes were round or oval. Your hat is what we often call a "bubble" style, and was made to place over the teased up hair styles of the times.
