I Need Some Help...Info On This Jim Beam Box Purse

I have been googling my fingers raw trying to find some information on this interesting Jim Beam wooden box purse.

The purse is labeled Regal China...I have found they were the makers of many of the figural Jim Beam collectors bottles but I can't find any info on this purse.

I'm thinking it is 70's? but can't confirm it. I have no idea if it is rare or not.

Thanks

Cat

Just wonderful!

I'm wondering if the "regal china" label actually came from one of those figural Jim Beam bottles (and so is not really the "brand" of this purse).

These decoupage purses were often homemade; any reason to think this one isn't? (Ie are there any manufacturer's markings inside the purse that match that "regal china" label? If not, it's likely homemade from a kit, or from a manufactured box purse that's then been DIY-decorated!)

Carrie, you may be right that it is handmade as I have owned several from the 60's/70's that were. If so the crafter was highly skilled as it doesn't give off a "home made" vibe.

I don't see any marks inside the purse however, it is lined in a black fabric. The fabric is covering what looks like a insert that fits perfectly against the wood and is securely glued? so I can't peek underneath.

Here is a picture of the interior.

Decoupage is big here. Someone could have recently done it using a old box bag and old labels. But Iam guessing 60's 70's. No matter. It rocks...

I think I'd prefer it without the labels - although it is cute with them. If it was mine for personal use I might not be able to overcome the temptation to try and remove them! Would it leave a mark do you think?

BTW I'm NOT advocating anyone do this! It may ruin the box... I just can't help visualising a plain black box like that would looking PERFECT on my dressing table with vintage trinkets spilling out of it.. mmmm

I don't think it is new...it's been in my stash for a few years and it originally came from an estate sale where the newest items were early 80's.

I don't think that the labels would come off easily...the protective coating over them appears to be rather thick.

:damnit:

I think it's charming with the labels! The vintage whiskey labels on the black backgound add up to an aesthetically pleasing colorway, IMO.

If the purse is very professionally finished there's a possibility the labels were added to a manufacturer-made box purse. I had a JR 60s box purse a few years ago that had been covered all over with a needlepoint design--I knew the exterior was a DIY addition because there was an error or two in the stitching! And I had a second JR box purse that had been trimmed in rickrack and eyelet--also not original to the purse.

I had a wooden box purse with the exact same twist plastic/lucite handle and findings (ie hinges in back, knobbed latch in front) as yours that seemed to have been done from a kit. It was painted blue and had decoupage flowers on it, but inside it was unfinished wood.
