I am desperate to find more information regarding "Sam Diamond Knitting Mills
Inc." and the Schiaparelli connection....anyone, anything, ideas, thoughts. Is there a list somewhere of the companies that were licensed by Elsa to do knits and sweaters? ANY HELP is GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Hello,

I am not familiar with that label, have not seen it before. According to a leading authority, there is no complete list of all the firms which used the Schiaparelli name on their goods. It is extremely difficult to find all the firms, of which there were many here in the USA. The research is still on going and is not complete. There were also a few fake labels, using a stamp or a woven name. I am happy to see yours, and let us know if you find out anything.

This has been edited later by me, posted partly in wrong thread....sorry....B

Thanks for the response, I have been RACKING my brain trying to figure this out...Th other label is a Berlou Moth Proof label, which I believe was attached at the dry cleaners after it was "moth proofed"...I have many other vintage dresses and suits from the same lady and she had 90% of the Berloued at the dry cleaners....

Hi,

You referenced a connection between "Sam Diamond Knitting Mill Inc" and Schiaparelli, so I assumed your meant there was also a label with that other name. Am I wrong? How are you making a connection between the two companies? If there is no other label, why do you think there is a connection? Sorry If I am confused...

found this definition and it has me even more intrigued! "RN is a number issued by the Federal Trade Commission, upon request, to a business residing in the U.S. that is engaged in the manufacture, importing, distribution, or sale of textile, wool, or fur products."

Hi,

It is definitely licensed. Anything made after the mid 1950s (I forget the exact date right at this moment....it was sometime between 1954-1957) with a Schiaparelli label is licensed.

Isn't this all so interesting? So, if I am getting this, ....the Sam Diamond Mill Co, as US based company, did not make the sweaters, but imported them or distributed them in the USA, hence the RN number. So I might assume the sweater dress was made in Italy, imported by Diamond Mills using that RN #, and with a license fee paid to Schiap for the use of her name. Now I must find out...did Diamond Mills pay for the use of her name, or did the maker of the dress pay for that privilege? As most of what I collect is antique or older than 1930's, I was never one to get into all the Union numbers and RN numbers and such, but I can see how they can solve mysteries!
