i think i know what it is..but what went under it?

ok, firstly i apologise for the bad pics - light is fading so i had to drag the dummy into the front bedroom/junk room!

i picked this up at the weekend, and i am assuming it's a 1960's crocheted (cotton i think) wedding overdress. it was on it's own when i found it so i don't know if there was ever another piece to go with it - i don't think it was ever worn as the back opening edge is left raw and unfinished, with no fasteners.

as you can see it has fluted/bell sleeves, and a rather cropped bodice.

so what i'm wondering is
A) am i right about it's purpose, and

B) what would have gone under it? a sleeveless empire waisted cream slip?

thank you!:)

That's lovely.

Am I seeing it right that the slit/opening is in the back and the front is just the top part?

I am not sure. I am thinking of it as over a full strapless dress versus a cream slip unless i am not perceiving it correctly.

Yes, I think it went with a wedding dress, not a slip. The dress probably didn't have a train, and so the crocheted top served as one.

Very lovely!
