I Want a BLT!

I dont think so Linda. I have been buying and eating the tomatoes on the vine. They are supposed to be ok. They cost a bit more, but taste better and I need tomatoes! :P

Cherry and grape tomatoes are ok and cooking kills whatever the salmonella. Unfortunately, I don't any of these are particularly good for BLTs. Claire

Tomatoes on the vine are OK.

I LOVE tomatoes. I cannot live without them! I went to some fast food place (Del Taco? Taco Bell?) a couple weeks ago and they had a sign saying they did not have tomatoes because of the scare.
I didn't order anything.
I went to In & Out a few days later and they DID have tomatoes. Apparently THEY were willing to fork out the extra $$ to make sure they had SAFE tomatoes.
Gooooo In & Out!

>salmonella in tomatoes??? weird......

That's what I thought, I googled it and sure enough.. I think we here in Blighty are safe.. for now anyway!

Cherry tomatoes, tomatoes with the vine still attached and any grown at home are not included in the FDA warning. No Canadian tomatoes have been associated with the outbreak, according to a Canadian Food Inspection Agency's press release

I'm looking forward to our own garden tomatoes! Also, you can buy from local farmers markets, they seem to be safe.

theoretically, it was the california ones (romas, especially) in particular that were being pesky. the FL ones are fine, as should be your local produce and anything sold on-vine.

i know, a good BLT can't be beat!!

i have no blossoms on mine yet, but can't wait for them bloom, grow and produce big fatties!!

l'm growing plum.., beef, cherry and plum varieties.....among othe rveg....am loving it.
