Identify Vintage English Chelsea Boots - Made in Northamptonshire

Hi all,

I picked up these old chelsea boots today and cannot identify the maker to save my life. I've attached pictures, as you can see there is a crest and it says made in Northamptonshire. My first thought was that they may be Churches, but the crest is slightly different. I would really appreciate any help on this from anyone in the know.

Church shoes do not have a shield on either of their logos.

That could be the royal warrant (though it looks a bit simplistic), rather than part of the logo, so could be a few makers depending on when it was held.
Some Northamptonshire based companies are Loake, Barkers, Cheaney (who do have a shield logo, but it's not the same as yours).

Thanks for the quick reply. I agree, it doesn't look like a royal warrant. The only trouble with Loake and Barkers is that I have never seen them using a crest like that on their shoes. One other Northamptonshire based company is David Scott. I have a pair of tan chelseas by them, but the logo is totally different. Has anyone seen them use a crest in some other shoes/boots?

That looks good! It might be a cheaper line made by one of the bigger companies, and so only made in Northamptonshire, but not a major branded one like the above.

It's similar but different - but it just occurred to me it might be a shoemaker's guild crest and since Northampton is shoe town - it's a variation on the town's crest. I googled shoe guild crests and didn't find one, but I bet that's it.
