Identifying fur type/color and label of Oleg Cassini stole

Found this lovely stole that I believe is mink, but would like to confirm with you experts. Also wondering what you all see this color as? I'm inclined to call it pastel, as I feel it resembles the pastel mink in the fur resource. Lastly, I believe this label is 60's, is that correct? Thanks so much!

Hi Robin, It is indeed Mink. Both Pastel and Autumn Haze look very much like eachother and were Emba colors. You are fine describing it to look like either or both. :) The label does look 60s as well and I would guess the stole is 60s too but if you show a pic of the whole stole we can help confirm that for you as well.

Emba was a mink breeders association, they named the colors of their ranched mutations of mink, and they trademarked those color names. Both Autumn Haze and Pastel were Emba colors. Sometimes a label will be present that says Emba Autumn Haze or Emba Pastel Mink but not always. I always describe the color as I see it and for viewers who aren't familiar with mink color terms I offer a general description of color too.

Thanks so very much, Caryn! Your expertise is so appreciated. Here are pics of the full stole, and a Fur Authority label that was tucked into the pocket.

seeing that fur authority label, now i'm thinking 50s. but that's just based on it, and that the cassini label could also be 50s. but since i don't deal in fur, i can't tell from the shape of the stole. unlike caryn, who will know for certain.

It is very difficult to tell the difference between Autumn Haze and Pastel Mink. They are both described as a Natural Brown and look a lot alike. That's why I say it's okay to use one, the other, or both to describe the color.

One of the problems with the Emba colors were that no two mutations looked exactly alike so even being labeled the same colors were a little different.

Here are a few photos showing pastel mink and autumn haze mink. Take a look at how close the colors are and also account for some variation of lighting between the two which were taken with a camera in different lighting or settings. They still look very similar.

Starting in 1956 the Fur Label Authority label was added to fur garments. This label assured consumers that the furs complied with the guidelines set forth in the Fur Products labeling Act and were manufactured under fair labor standards.

Seeing your entire mink stole it does still look like it dates to the 60s. :)

thanks for all the great info!

yes, i see what you mean about the two colors being so close, they're interchangeable, taking lighting into consideration. i really appreciate your showing photos to illustrate :)
