Hi~

I guess I should know what kind of fabric this is but I don't. It is a medium weight, the dress has an acetate lining and the label is Dorothy Hubbs New York. Any help would be appreciated: )

Cute dress Kim.

Dresses like this of this era are generally polyester, rayon or silk. It could be any of those I think, so I ask you - how does it feel when you touch it? Is it cool or warm? Compare that with the acetate lining. Is it shiny or matt?

Thank you!

When compared to the lining, it is warm to the touch and not shiny. My best description of the fabric is slubby, textured and rough. I put the dress in a sack to show a friend who knows more about fabric than I do. She couldn't identify it. When I took the dress out of the bag (about five hours later), it had several wrinkles.

Aha, the wrinkles suggest that it's not polyester: that's good. I vote rayon from what you've said. The best thing would be if you could snip a small bit off the seam allowance and try a burn test. Is that possible do you think?

I just did the burn test. The thread turned black and it had an odor. After looking at the chart, I'm thinking a linen/rayon blend.

Thank you for so much for taking the time to help me: )
