Here's a lovely tie I picked up recently, it's in an almost two tone olive rayon-type fabric, with painted matador image. Anyone seen the stylized 'A' mark above the image before?
I think this may have just been a monogram of the actual owner. As it is handpainted, perhaps one could request their initial as well on the front of the tie.
I think Mary Jane's suggestion is reasonable, after all if it were the painter's signature, why seperate it from the painting? and you'd have a hard time identifying them from only one letter!
Aha, that's very interesting.. I thought it resembled Omega, but am not familiar with sorority stuff so didn't put the two together! I thought maybe it might be the artist's initials used as a design element, rather than 'signing' their work, in this vein (although obviously without the punch of YSL..!)-
I wonder then if Gayle's found the tie's origin, that would be a speedy resolution! I suppose there are other universities with Matador mascots.. although I can't imagine why, it's totally horrific..
What kind of date would everyone put on it?
It's definitely the Alpha and Omega symbol. However I wouldn't assume it's from this sorority. The symbol of the two greek letters combined, with many variations, is widely used, associated with Christianity.
