Identifying this jewelry set? Help me.

I haven't seen anything exactly like either of your sets, but the findings and the designs look like early 1950's. Your theory that they were made from kits is very plausable, too, especially with the mix of materials - the white shells with the red clusters, but maybe they are commerically made. I have seen earlier pieces on braided cord.

Could you take a clearer closer shot of the earring clips? The second set is definitely '50's and I am pretty sure the first set is as well. The findings (clips) look like they may possibly be from Japan. I thought I had a pair of earrings similar to the red ones but they are different, although the same period. I have seen coral and faul coral that is similar but not this exact design.

The only photos I can find are not the work of crafters but are early unsigned Miriam Haskell pieces on silk cord. This set is on Morning Glory.com:

I don't have anything in my personal collection that is on a braided cord but I have seen some of these pieces in person and others. I do not mean to imply that yours are unsigned Haskells! On reflection, I think the blue set is probably commercially made unless the materials were supplied with the "tail" and hook for the necklace already assembled.

I was looking for a close up of the earring closed to get the shape of the finding. Like this:

There are no markings so I don't know where these are from - probably W. Germany or Japan.
