2 questions:
There is a number on the ILGWU label? Does it identify the manufacturer? If so, where do I get a list?
Did Ohrbach's put labels in their garments?

Hi Claire,
I was doing research about union labels for another question I was working on and I contacted the Kheel archives of union materials at Cornell University. They told me that the numbers on union labels were meant to indicate certain areas of the country and general runs of items but there is no archive of what number is tied to which garment or even as narrow as which manufacturer. That would be great if there was! Good luck.

I do not use union labels in my dating of garments, and so have little to add that might help there. But if I understand your other query, I have seen Orbachs own store labels in 1960s hats, and in better coats of the same era. Or were you referring to Orbach's using union labels?
