Ilie Wacs on NY1 Today

I was watching NY1 this morning and this human interest bit comes on about Jewish brother and sister survivors who fled to Shanghai which is rather interesting. They mention the brother wound up becoming a designer and instantly I put two and two together and realized it was Ilie Wacs. Pretty interesting little piece.

Very cool! I have an Ilie Wacs blazer - one of my favorite vintage pieces.

That was great! I knew the basics of Ilie Wacs' story, but it was enlightening to see this piece, and learn about his sister, a very beautiful woman.
The artwork in the home is incredible too. He's a true artist.

I found an Ilie Wacs raincoat last month; it's wonderful.

Great piece about Ilie Wacs. There were a few designers that escaped Europe because of the Nazis - Rudi Gernreich, Greta Plattry... others too that I can't remember at the moment and my brain is too lazy to get up and check the file drawers at the back of the cranium...

I didn't know he was also an artist, too. And it was amazing about his sister spotting a picture of herself at the museum.

I knew about Wacs in Shanghai, but I didn't know he was still living! I find his clothes here every once and awhile. They are always quite nice.

I've wondered about the story behind Ilie Wacs. I did alterations in a high end dress shop in the 80s and we carried Illie Wacs suits. I loved their bold colors and they always had such a flattering fit. Thank you for posting this.
