I was on here a while back asking about advice for "vintage" related education sources.
Well its not entirely vintage, and not entirely real college but its a start. I am doing distance learning through The Art Institute in Fashion retail and management. But there are many beneficial classes in the program from fashion history, to textiles and basic sewing as well as 3 classes on various e commerce and 1-2 on brick and mortar stores. Even blueprinting a store from ground up! So I can definitely apply it! I start classes Monday!
Then when I am ready I can go on to master in fashion design (which can't be done with a distance program naturally) So I will be getting my bachelors with this program.
I hope to run in the direction of owning my own retail chain that specializes in authentic reproduction and/or vintage inspired clothing on a mass scale (now this is a 10-15 year goal) I would love to have a Vintage store right along side banana republic, or Nordstroms or such but with a slightly lower affordable price tag.
Part of me says its a big dream and then again there is not a doubt in my mind that I can't do this. I have never loved anything in the materialistic world other than antiques and I recently discovered my PASSION for vintage. What a fine thing to do what you LOVE!
Its a dream, but at least it is a goal and I can plan on it right? If my store does take off, sure I will wear my pieces, but I would rather wear the original piece that my lines are modeled after!
