I'm Steaming mad

That *is* dreadful. When the credit card companies exchanged the credit card machines for the new chip and pin ones where I work they were very insistant on explaining to all staff just how the things worked and how if a person used the card incorrectly it would void it not only for that purchase, but void the whole card for all future use until the customer's bank was contacted to rectify the problem.

We then got a load of literature through to back this up, and repeated reminders via phone and post. So to misuse the machines in that way and make things difficult for another person by voiding their card is *dreadful*. It's not like it's an easy mistake to make.

Plus if he *listened* and used his *brain* (if he has one)... or even if he'd read what his own credit machine said while he was trying to carry out the transaction (cos they are relatively foolproof and tell you all you need to know as you go along) he'd just have had to press one button when the machine said to type in the pin number, and then he would have been asked to swipe his operators card or type in his code number to let the machine print a slip that required a signature. Stupid man. Maybe he hasn't bothered to learn how to use the machine. Maybe he hadn't bothered to learn his pass code number or bring his card with him.

And everyone knows that you can override pins at the moment, so for the guy to lie about that is stupid too. I usually explain that "the credit card companies have let us override the chip and pin system at the moment because not everyone has their pin numbers organised yet, but soon they will be stopping us from doing this, so please have a word with your bank as soon as you can and make sure your card and pin are sorted out before it all changes".

And I'm so sorry all of that spoilt your day and made you dislike your purchase, that's awful. :-(

The banks haven't quite sorted out all the glitches with the chip and pin system yet.... and it's becomming blatantly obvious that chip and pins are much easier to use fraudulently than signature cards, so what was the point?!

Then again, I'm suffering from an injury to my right hand at the moment and can't hold a pen, but can thankfully still go shopping thanks to chip and pin. YAY! LOL!!!

It's these new credit cards they've given us that have a computer chip on them. You stick them in the machine, it reads the chip and requests you type in the pin number that goes with the card... and that's the payment completed, you don't have to sign anything.

Apparently it's meant to make card fraud more difficult because when they nick your card they don't have the pin number with them to copy like they have your signature to copy.

Of course, if someone is into identity theft, they can get your pin number a lot quicker than they can learn to forge your signature.

And since my maestro card went chip and pin I can't use it in the US when I visit. Which is *really* irritating!!!!

its a horrible system. I had my debit card cloned while I was in Harrods. I know it happened there as I hadn't had any other transactions. That was using the stupid chip and pin system. I detest it. Never got my card cloned with signature. My husbands one was stolen once while he was at work. The thief ran up an £800 bill then the bank got suspicious as we never shop in the area. Despite the Police identifying the culprit complete with address and on camera they declined to prosecute much to the fury of the bank.

it was no mistake. He shoved the card through the machine 5 times. Then he smirked and said " I've voided your card for you now you won't be able to use it" I was so furious I paid by cheque and card as I was not going to be humiliated by him, but I could not look at those items with any pleasure and as he refused to apologise I decided to auction the things on Ebay. No wonder his stand was empty his manners were atrocious. If he had been pleasant and helpful I liked the merchandise enough to spend considerably more money at a later date.
