I only saw this now. The exhibition I wrote about that I saw the other week in Paris is also coming to New York and Chicago! Well, I should have guessed, we were stunned to see some of the masterpieces from the museums in NY and Chicago, that certainly are seldomly seen outside their home. And so in turn a lot of the Musée d'Orsays great collection will be on view in the US, which certainly doesn't happen a lot either. And the dresses are a dream, of course. Be sure to have enough time to see it all, as there is really a lot to see. I was stunned by the scale of it all!

It will be at the Metropolitan Museum of Art from February 26th til May 27th: http://www.metmuseum.org/en/exhibitions/listings/2013/impressionism-fashion-modernity and at the Art Institute of Chicago from June 26th til September 22nd: http://www.artic.edu/exhibition/impressionism-fashion-and-modernity
(BTW the Art Institute is home to my fave Renoir painting - it's not in the exhibition, but you can see it in their permanent collection - the two sisters on a balcony. It's not just pretty, it feels so life-like you'd think the two girls will start moving around any second.)

Yes, that's it. Reproductions do it no justice though, as with most great paintings. The effect is just stunning. Impressionism and Renoir first got me interested in art really. I may have got interested in a lot of other painters since, and my absolute favourite painter is Frans Hals, but Renoir (and also Monet) "get" me when I see paintings like this one. This one is in the exhibition, and it's a total stunner too: http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/works-of-art/07.122 The dog's expression makes me smile every time :).
