with everyone tightening their belts due to the credit crunch/recession i was wondering has it hit your ebay/shop sales?

i dont list on ebay like i used to purely due to the recycling side of my business being really busy, so i have loads of stock, but not enough time in the day to list..lol..

my mother has 2 fashion shops one ladies and one for men's and since the end of January sales have really plummeted, she is tied to a lease, and 2 years ago she totally refurbished one of the shops, i have suggested if things dont improve over the next few months, that i could maybe use that shop and take over the lease to sell my retro clothing to appeal to the teenage/studant market etc...with also selling secondhand levi's etc...
so i thought i'd start try and find out how much sales have dropped in the vintage/retro side of the fashion shops.

i don't do ebay, but i've been very fortunate as my shops on ruby lane have done great Jan, Feb and March, March being the best so far. :headbang:

Same. Since the new year started, sales have been great:cheer:

Jan was crap, Feb was good, March was crap but checking my books from previous years, March has always been crap. The UK economy is generally crap at the minute.:poo:

Our B&M has been doing decent business; your idea of taking one of the shops sounds like a good one, since the younger market has the discretionary income.

this is what i was thinking, to go down the retro clothing, as i havent got time to list my items i have been selling some my vintage/retro clothing( reluctantly) by the kg, and he cant get enough 80's shellsuits and the iconic 80's men's grey suits:barf:

I think you'll do well - I've got a brick and mortar and although I'm in Australia (so our economic situation is a bit better than yours), sales are up. Last month was 30% up.

Where in Wales are you? My family is Welsh, from the Rhonda valley.

i live in the swansea valley, so only about 50 minutes drive away from the rhondda

there is a retro shop in the centre of swansea which sells 'pretend' vintage, there is company that makes new clothes to look like vintage so i feel the younger generation is being duped so to speak( this is my personal opinion) i dont know if any one in britain have heard of them, they are a company called pop, dont get me wrong good concept, but i really wonder how many of the buyers think that the stuff is vintage

I think pop do both - as as well as their own label which as you say 'looks' vintage they wholesale 'proper' vintage too I believe, rag house style.

I think you'd do well to turn one of the shops over to retro, you've got the students there and as Maryalice points out they are the ones at the moment with a readily disposable income! Let us know :)
