I think this bag may be 40s? If anyone could confirm or correct that, I'd be grateful. Also wondering if anyone has seen a bag like this before. I couldn't find any similar example. It is like a sewn rag rug, I believe the material is cotton. It has no markings or labels.

I've not seen one like this specifically, but it sure does have the look of a 40's bag that's trying to mimic a Corde bag. It's possible that this was homemade by a very clever home seamstress. I wouldn't be surprised if there were a pattern for this sort of thing floating around out there.

Yes I've seen knit and crochet bags, but never a sewn rag rug type bag. Still can't find any other examples and couldn't find a pattern either.

Many magazines published 'how to' articles on ways to be thrify with available materials. (E.g., there's a very cool one about how to re-work a men's suit (!) into a fashionable women's wartime one.) It will be like looking for a needle in a haystack, I'm afraid, but a labor of love!

No, not speaking generally. This type of bag... code style material and the top handle.
Ah ok, thanks. Funny I can't find any like it. It's definitely the most sturdy 40s bag I've ever found - I think it's good to survive another 80 years and then some.

Yes, this isn't corde though - it's like cotton rope coiled and sewn together like a rag rug. It's a very large bag. I can see how it resembles corde in the photo but it's quite different.
