Info/Identification of '70s prom pendant

Hello, everyone!

My friend found this heart-shaped pendant on the ground at her school that I speculate was for a prom. Although I realize narrowing down the actual prom/school is asking a lot, I didn't know if anyone was familiar with the image or its words. If you can provide any cultural context (or if anything similarly done around that time elsewhere in the US) based on the pictures I was provided, I would appreciate it! Thanks!

Welcome to the forums, Blujay. Interesting story, and I bet other members will have some insight.

I would like to encourage you to delete the other two identical posts you made regarding the pendant. We regulars all drop in to all the sub-forums, and duplicate posts can end up fracturing conversation. This sub-forum is probably the best fit for this post, since it is a question about a vintage item.

Ah, thank you! Do you know how I can delete them? I haven't found anything pointing to how to do this.

Hmm. On threads that I have started, I have an option in the upper right corner that says "Thread Tools". From there, I can delete my thread. Not sure if that option is available for guests but take a look. Otherwise, we would need a forum administrator who has privileges for moving and/or deleting threads and posts when appropriate.

I don't know if they still do this, but high schools and colleges used to have a theme for each year's prom, as well as homecoming. It was chosen by the planning committee, sometimes after a student body vote, and helped with figuring out decorations, and those little dance card "favors". Song titles were common themes, and "A Time For Us" was the theme for Romeo and Juliet, which came out in 1968, and was extremely popular with teens. So it makes sense to me that A Time For Us was the prom theme for a JFK High School somewhere in 1973.

Where is your friend's school and where is it located? Have you researched the names of other schools in the area?

As Maggie stated, that's exactly right. If there is a JFK school near you, then that's it. The only wild card would be if the person who lost this is originally from another area.

Thank you, Maggie, Mary! I don't live in the area where my friend goes to school; we communicate via email while she's in college. She goes to a college in the DFW area in Texas. Google Maps indicates in San Antonio there is a JFK high school that was founded in 1963. So that, in addition to the fascinating cultural info you've given me, does seem to match with the pendant. Unless, of course, it's a completely different school! Assuming Wikipedia is correct, there's 28 JFK schools in the U.S.; after looking through them, five can be eliminated due to location (one was in Guam) and various openings/closings before the prom date. A lot of the schools are located in New York, New Jersey, and California, so maybe it's one of those schools...

The high school I went to was very small, so we never had proms, per say, so I've enjoyed reading what's been posted. :)
