Info on Arthur Falkenstein

Hello VFG members!

My name is Christian Hernandez and I am a grad student at the Fashion Institute of Technology doing research on a little known designer Arthur Falkenstein. He worked in New York from the later 1930's to sometime in the 1950's. I have been able to find very little information on him and am wondering if anyone out there has any garments by him, or stories about him. Any information at all would be helpful. All I've been able to find is mentions in the New York Times, a few garments here and there (probably 25 in total) but no information on his business or him as a person. He may even be alive (although he would be around 100 years old by now).

I knew Lynne would turn up something!

Do any of the things you found give an address where he was located? I remember talking to a woman 7 or 8 years ago who lived in the same building where he had his atelier but I don't remember the address. I seem to think it was 73rd, but I'm not sure.

I have a few addresses for him, some of which I know for sure are his (as below) and some of which I strongly suspect were earlier or later addresses.

I found so many small things that it would take too much time to upload them to my file host, then post them all here, but if you (or anyone) wants to see them all, I can do that later. The caveat is that I am reasonably confident that the bits I found are all about the couturier, but I am missing some absolute proofs.

The item here is from a 1958 classified ad...

Jonathan. I have the following addresses for him.
“Apparel Shop Rents Large 34th St. Space” August 11, 1936
“21W. 75th Street in Cash Purchase” June 7, 1939
“Leasing is Active in Garment Center” September 25, 1940
“Mike Todd Takes E. 54th St. House”August 29 1945

It seems like he was at 16 E 52nd from 1953-1959 from four classified ads for him I found that were similar to the one posted by Ikraneri.
