Info on Gucci Dress

Hi, I have a vintage Gucci Dress I'm trying to get some more info on. From the label resource, I thought maybe it was from the 80s? Do you guys think that's accurate? Secondly, what would you call this pattern, is it plaid or houndstooth? If you look at the closeup of the pattern it seems to be made of a bunch of tiny roses.

Is this dress anything special or just run of the mill?

Thanks in advance!
Shelly

I would call this style of plaid "Glen Plaid" - there is likely a more specific term. And, I would call it that even though the pattern is made of flowers, because it is still a plaid. The label does look like our examples from the 80s, and the style of dress would fit, as well. I think finding a high-end designer piece is always special, even when it's ready-to-wear, like this. This looks like office attire, so, daily wear that is office appropriate, neither casual nor cocktail fashion.

Hi Shelly41 and welcome to the forums. It looks somewhere between the '80s to mid '90s to me, you can help narrow that down by the size and shape of the shoulder pads.

Yes, some call it a 'glen plaid', in my Australian/British world we call it a 'Prince of Wales' check. You're right in that it's also a rose print.

I'm not an expert on Gucci so can't advise on specialness but my general advice is to look at realised auction prices online (ebay, specialist auction houses etc) to give you an idea.

That is one of the prettiest and charming fabrics I have seen in a long while. I adore Glen plaid and this seems to be a "fool the eye" not quite real plaid that only when up close do you see the tiny roses. But yes I would call it a Glen plaid ..why not! 1990s seems right but I am just guessing on the date.

Hi everyone! Thanks for your answers, it was all very helpful. I learned a new fashion term too ("Glen Plaid"). I agree that the pattern being made of tiny roses is very pretty :)
