I've Googled for info on the Katz & Barandes label but come up empty. Does anyone have any info on the label? Also, while I'm assuming the coat dates from the 40s, the label looks older to me, and I was wondering what your thoughts/impressions are on the matter

. Many thanks in advance for your assistance!

Your fine coat looks very 1940's to me, the color, the hand top stitching, the hand stitched buttons, the shoulder pads, the karakul pointed collar, The crepe backed satin lining, etc. I swear my mother wore one almost like it.

In the 1940 US census for Manhattan a 43 year old Ben Katz, born in 1910 in Russia, listed his occupation as "Operator" of a cloak factory, so that may be our Katz...and Sidney Katz could very well be related.
My gosh, what an amazing wealth of information! I'm just reading it all now. Just out of curiosity, regarding the "1943 ad 1948 NYC directories" you reference, as well as the census info, is all of this available online? And I wasn't aware of the Wool Products Labeling Act of 1939, the existence of which is really interesting to me. I have so much to learn! I'm so grateful!

Thanks so much! You have a wonderful eye for detail. I wish I had better fabric knowledge - to me it's all satin. I would not have known it was lined in crepe backed satin in particular. Again, many thanks!

Jennifer, HERE is the link to the 1940 directory/phone book and I am trying to remember where I found the others. I may have found one on Ancestry and if I can recreate my steps for the other(s) I will post that here.
