Interested in finding out more about 'Jintys'

Hi all

Apologies if this is something absolutely everyone knows about, but I was interested in knowing a little more about the fashion label/London boutique Jintys. I've come across a lovely 80s dress courtesy of a friend's attic and haven't had much success in finding out anything through a bit of googling...

If anyone can help, I'd love to hear from you...

I also haven't heard of them (and I'm UK based).

A quick search reveals a few more with the same brand, mostly 70s and 80s. Perhaps it was a fairly shortlived boutique, and looks like it produced some lovely things !

I found this old post from Catwalk Creative (who knows A LOT about British Boutiques) showing an article from 1968 that features a piece by 'Jinty'. Unfortunately the photos are no longer visible, but the text shows that Jinty was around in 1968 at least.

Hi all

thanks so much for your help - attached are some photos. I really love the dress - I’m assuming 1980s, just based on shoulder pads, colour scheme and the fact that it’s labelled 10 but wears like a modern 8 (the belt is tiny!)

I don't know if this is your "Jinty's" but I suspect it may be...

-- Jinty Martell was 34 years old in Feb 1970
-- She was described at that time as "a leading British fashion designer"
-- She was born in Birkenhead and attended Wallssey, then Liverpool Colleges of art
-- She spent three years at London's Royal College of Art fashion school
-- She designed for leading fashion houses, including Sambo, where she designed the Sambo Dollyrocker collection
-- In 1966 she started her own business, Jinty, Ltd., with her husband Malcolm Martell
-- A 2001 obit for John Stephenson noted in 1972 he married "Jinty Martell, a dress designer" and at that time of his death she survived him

-- 1971 ads advertised "Jinty dresses" (not "Jinty's dresses" but I am pretty sure they were the same thing)
-- Sale ads for Jinty dresses at discounted prices began to appear around 1986, suggesting they were closeout sales
-- The latest ad I found for Jinty dresses was from 1990
