I had a job as a props buyer for a small production in the early 1980s but it wasn't for historical props. It was not an easy job because of the lack of time you had to find everything. I had six weeks to find and/or build everything and at the end of week 2 I had found about 25% of the items but the producer didn't like a bottle I had found and made me buy it back with my own money to 'teach me a lesson' (the producer was an a-hole and faded away into obscurity). So I bought the bottle back and then quit. My replacement had as much of a hard time as I did and also quit! Who knows, if that experience had been better I might have gone into props buying - it still sounds like a fun job!
