The materials used, corde and faux (nonleather) snakeskin lead me to believe these were made during wartime rationing.

I've seen lots of corde handbags but never a pair of corde shoes! If you ignore the material and just focus on style details, would you agree on early to mid 1940s?

Mary Jane, they're not tiny, just a little too small for me.
labeled 7.5 N, fit like a 7.

If they're late 30s, I wonder if they could be UK made? I'm still on the wartime wavelength here. And hoping Jonathan will stop by.

They are a generic style that could be as early as the late 1930s or even as late as the early 1950s. However, the grey lining, use of corde, and the position of the strap cutting the instep right across the middle are all postwar features. The boarded (textured) leather is more typical of wartime but it continues in use into the postwar period. 30s shoestraps are generally set higher on the foot, not across the instep without the use of a 'T' strap. There are exceptions to all these rules but generally speaking I would say these are c. 1947-48ish. If someone showed these to me and said they were worn in 1943 I wouldn't doubt them, if they said they were worn in 1938, I would question it but probably accept what they said, and if they said they were worn in 1950 I wouldn't question it either - so they really could be from a pretty broad period.

Just got back from taking our daughter out to dinner for her 20th birthday. Thanks Jonathan! I'm always amazed at the details that you see in shoes that help you connect the dots when it comes to dating.
