Is it me or does Christmas get earlier every year?

Not that I don't love Christmas (I really do!) but the Christmas lights came on in November in my town, and I've just come back on a half hour break from assembling Santa's grotto and generally getting stuff ready for the school PTA's christmas fair this afternoon.

I'm sure this is all happening really early! Then Lincoln Christmas Market starts on the 7th and runs for the weekend so town will be absolutely over run with festive cheer.. until Sunday night, when they'll take the mulled wine stalls away and it will still be nearly 3 weeks to go until christmas!

Anyone else got in the spirit yet, or is it just me? :)

nope its not just you...usually l am brimming over with it, but am stuck home with poorly kids....and have managed to muster the advent calenders...and they pee me off as they want chocolate ones not trad ones....ho hum...bah humbuggy!

l usually have most of the xmas gifts by end novemeber, but have hardly any...'cept for my folks and secret santa gifts, which is all ready to post!!
so you arent alone...
l'm off to kent for a few day next week, so when l return it should be more christmas-y l hope....we did have a long autumn so possibly thats taken the edge off it all..

I do love Xmas time...

But this year, I wish I could just skip right over it. Too many personal things going on that I am not really feeling the Xmas spirit this year.

But yes, it does seem to be coming around earlier. All the decorations for sale at the store seem to come just as early too....... Saw some pop out when the Halloween stuff was put out!!!!

There does seem to be a bit of overkill lately with the holidays. Where I live there was actually Christmas stuff for sale in some of the stores right after Halloween! Also, many of my neighbors put their Xmas lights up in November.

What bugs me, though, is the radio stations start bombarding us with Christmas music Thanksgiving Day. So even though the songs put me in a festive holiday mood, by the time Christmas finally arrives I can't bear to hear yet another rendition of "Walking in a Winter Wonderland!"

when i heard the Muppetts Sing the 12 days of Christmas coming from a construction truck out here the day before thanksgiving - i just couldn't take it yet. Yikes. Eeek. Not that i don't like the muppets - its just too early for it.

Now THAT is just WRONG!! :flaming:

I also saw the "Retail Convergence of the Holidays" around Halloween, when Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas stuff were all in the stores at the same time.

What happened to the official calendar?

Back to School = 1 week before school starts

Halloween = all of October

Thanksgiving = Nov. 1st - Thanksgiving Day

Christmas = day after Thanksgiving - Christmas Day, with the two weeks before the day being the most concentrated in Christmas-related whatnot

There should be no sign of any other holiday during the other holiday times!!

Good thing New Year's Eve is such a quick and dirty event....

One of the problems is being a retailer/seller that has to be getting her poop in a group by late October, right after she sells out of those H'ween items she got ready in August.
If we could merrily walk by the isles of Walmart and not think about the holiday decor filling the garden center in it's off season, we wouldn't notice as much.
