Is it Vintage, or just Vintage-inspired?

Good article, Joules, thanks for posting it!

Re: new term to replace (co-opted) Vintage, how about "Historic"?

Its just part of the misappropriation of words these days - vintage, curator, product, brand, etc. The problem is that most people don't know what the word means! I don't think most people know that to be a 'curator' means you care for things, not pick items of exceptional value or beauty - that's being a connoisseur. Vintage is a wine term that doesn't necessarily offer a judgement as whether it is good or bad although it has come to mean that it's not from this year. So vintage clothing can be a polyester piece of shite, or a couture gown by Lanvin - its just not from the present.

Hi,

Yikes.....it gets worse and worse.

I recall how the problem years ago was how to designate ANTIQUE clothing from VINTAGE clothing. Was it 100 years, 75 years, 50 years old? Now if I mention that I sell vintage clothing, many people think I sell Bettie Page polyester repros or 1990s second hand clothing.

I give up!
