Is there a name for this style hollow metal choker Please?

Hi..

Is there a name for this type of necklace? Each little circular dot is about 1/8" around and the necklace is hollow gold tone. The necklace connects magnetically, and is about 1 -1/2" around.

Is there a name for the magnetic clasp?
Any clue to the age of it?

Sorry for all the questions. I've had it for a few years, but couldn't find information on the style so never listed it.

this is an estate set.. totally irrevelant but it came in a very old Neiman box with a pair of Napier earrings. the earrings don't look like they match in the photo, but they are perfect IRL., absolutely no markings on the necklace.
thanks so much,
von

What a pretty and unique necklace, Von--never seen the like!

No technical terms or definite answers to help you with, just a couple of hunches and imprecise thoughts:

My guess is a magnetic clasp like that wouldn't go back further than the time those magnetic handbag snaps were coming on the scene--was that late 80s or 90s? Anyway, between the tailored/modernist style and that clasp, that would be my stab at pinning an earliest date on the necklace; it could also be newer (you can find lots of magnetic jewelry clasps and findings on the market right now).

As for the earrings--are you certain they are a pair with the necklace? What makes you think so?

I don't know the proper term to describe the technique of applying all those semi-domes of metal, but I'd call them "studs" and describe the necklace as a studded (or stud-encrusted) rope style choker necklace.

I hope one of our jewelry folks will come along to weigh in!

Hi Von - I would just put "magnet clasp". They're good for folks who have trouble with their fingers or have a hard time lifting their arms. I had a few of my step-mother's necklaces switched over to this kind of clasp. I wouldn't list the earrings with it - as they have magnetic earrings too!

Thanks so very much Carrie & Amanda, i appreciate the tips. and Carrie.. as soon as i read your post i realized i have a handbag with the magnetic clasp. DUH! lol.. i never "connected" the two.

I have a friend who does estate sales, and he allows me to shop before they open the sale :).

These were just as the owner left them, the necklace and earrings were in a really old striped Neiman Marcus box together.. so i do think the owner wore them together.. but i do agree with both of you. sell seperately.

jewelry is so out of my realm, but i liked how unique the choker is.

Thanks again so much for your help! Amanda.. you are right, these are perfect for people with arthritis, etc.

thanks ladies! von

Thank you Vertugarde! I appreciate that. :)

I really need to stop limiting my shopping excursions from Estate sale bedrooms and antique shops and get to the malls once in a while. lol.

off to google again! von
