Or is it just a double seam, or something simple? Just listing a very nice 1960s Crombie overcoat, and it has this at the shoulders and side seams.

Yes, really BIG!

I think you'll need to wait for one of the men's tailoring experts to come along.

OR, I could just rally them from "The Other Side" :o :o

Sorry about the huge pictures! Laura the lining is completely sewn in so I can't get at the reverse without major excavations.. not to worry - have gone with double stitched. :)
