There is a label in this 20s dress. I think it says Anne tte. I don't know if that is really Annette. Is it familiar to you? What do you think it says?

I wonder if it's not a designer/maker label but a name label - so this was Annette's dress.

Name labels are not uncommonly found in garments, it helps with laundry or when the wearer is somewhere there are lots of people, like a school.

That could be a possibility. It could also say Anne He. Thanks Nicole

The dress certainly appears to be 1920s from what I can see. The armhole looks atypically deep, but that is possible.
But that label style doesn't look 20s - the font style isn't right. Where is the label inside the garment? Modern placement is usually center back neckline. 1920s placement would be low on a side seam, on the waist seam or even on the hem.

I wonder of this is a later label added to an older dress? I knew vintage dealer who added her own label to all her goods, so I wonder...

The label is in the neckline. The sewing detail in the dress itself is lovely and does not match the just stick it on there with a few stitches that was applied to the tag. There are more stitches on one side of the label than the other and the label could come off quite easily.

Do you think I should take the label off?

Thanks Mary, I took the label out and the back confirms that the name on there is Annette. There is no break between the threading on the back between the name.
