Hi,

Everyone has been so helpful the past week or so I feel I've used up my quota of questions for awhile - well you know there's a "but" coming - - - - - - but I'm making up for lost years, but I'm just getting started on Etsy, but I've still many MORE questions . . . . . .

Tonight's is: is this 60s top "rock-a-billy"?

I know the top is 60s. I've seen similar tops called rockabilly but I'm not sure why those tops are called rockabilly, and if I should describe this one as rockabilly.

:help::help::help:

Thanks.

Well, I think it is open to interpertation.

Rockabilly is genreally a coined term for "50s" as you are already aware, but it can also be for anything that relates to "rock n roll" music. With that said I have seen, and I consider it appropiate, items from the 50s - 90s be referred to as rockabilly. Kinda like bellbottoms have always been made by some company, but nothing like the originals.

So to me, I would think if the styl fits the rock and roll look, and polka dots usually do (but not always) I don't see where it would be a problem. It also depends on the cut of the shirt though. Have you put it on a mannequin? to me it would have to look good with some pencil jeans or such to be rockabilly. If it is really loose and flowing then I would say no.

I hope that helps. Hopefully others come along with more insight. Good question as this is a term that I don't often deal with unless it is obvious!

Rockabilly is primarily a music style and then the fashion that goes along with it (like punk, or goth). It is not limited strictly to 50s, but an overall aesthetic. Rockabilly was bigger in the 50s than the 60s and 70s, saw a resurgence in the 80s and then again mid to late 90s and remains a subculture even today (again, like punk or goth or any music based culture).

Not all 50s clothing is rockabilly, any more than all 60s being mod or all 70s being hippie. It was a facet of the 50s, but a look to its own.

This I can see with denim pedal pushers and red heels, or a black pencil skirt.....red works well in the rockabilly wardrobe, polka dots as well. If you really want a good visual of the look go to vivalasvegas.net and look at the archived photos of the events.

Ang,

I used your examples "denim pedal pushers and red heels, or a black pencil skirt" in my listing but forgot to ask your permission. Would you want me to change my examples? I'm sorry I should have asked first; I was finishing the listing in the middle of the night.
