Is this 70\'s? Would you call it a vest? Date and description help, please!

Hi ladies!

I'm thinking late 60's or early 70's on this.

I'm also thinking this is a vest but I'm not sure. And I'm not sure how to describe it either. It has a hook and eye closure at the neck and is lined in satin. No label.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

One last question, would this have been worn over a dress?

Thanks again,

Vicki

I'd call it a tunic vest, and as Amanda said, would have been great over a pair of wide-legged slacks or maxi skirt. This might have also had a matching hostess gown/maxi dress, where the skirt would have been of the same fabric, but the top of the dress plain or even done in a stretchy knit lame' (if the outfit was really dressy). It could have been worn over a mini dress, too, but probably not in that dressy fabric. I remember wearing vests to school that were nearly as long as my dress!

Vicki, is it a self-contained dress, or open at the sides or back? I have a 60's shift that is part of a set, and the shift part is an "overdress" to the cocktail sheath underneath. Yours could be sort of the same thing, or just a dressy short dress, or possibly a tunic to be worn over something else. Can we see a picture?
