It's a few inches longer in back than in the front. A burn test indicates silk.

There is a high inverted-vee waist in front.

There is a center-back zipper that ends quite low, then there is a long opening with a buttonloop closure at the top.

There are two long panels of material that drape from the waist to the hem in back.

The sleeves are pleated along the top, and there are snaps inside that may have held shoulder pads.

The hems are rolled, and the seams are pinked.

Another question (besides the era), should this be drycleaned or handwashed?

Thanks for your help!

That is a gorgeous dress, it would be nice to see it on a body to see how it hangs. I'm already covetting it! Lovely print which seems like quite a modern floral to me. Love the hanging panels.

Here's the dress on me.

I bought it about 15 years ago, and put it away when I got too big for it. I finally lost enough weight that I can get into my old clothes again! Yay!

I'm thinking late 30s transitioning into early 40s. Until I saw the dress on a body, I was thinking full on 30s, but with the starighter not-bias cut skirt and the back zipper instead of sideseam snaps I've edged into 40s. It's lovely.

It gorgeous on! It certainly looks like its pointing to 40's although the print seemed more modern too me, I'd have gone for nearer 70's too. But now I don't know.

I'm with the others. Until I saw the metal zipper, interior
construction and it on a body (which looks great on you
btw), I was thinking 70s. Now, I'm pretty sure it is
early 40s.
