Is this a 40\'s chinese jacket?

I think this jacket dates to the 1940's but the color has me stunned. It has padded shoulders, big pointed collar and bell sleeves all with very nice trapunto quilting. The fabric feels like silk or at least a silk and rayon blend. There are no labels. I have sold robes in a similar style with much more subdued material. Any thoughts?
Thanks-Lorinda

I dont think it is pure asian.. It looks like a mish mosh of 40's American styling with some Asian spice.

I think it may be a lounging jacket. With some wide leg silk pant it would be gret!

I love that look of a lounge jacket and wide legged pajama pants. The pants could easily be black because the frogs have a little black in them too. Thanks Chris!

I thought 40s right off....I have has a few Asian inspired lounging sets from the 40s & this strikes me as late, the collar 40s & the cut getting toward 50s. The earlier ones have slim, belted waistlines. This is really lovely! Ang

It looks like a very late, post war 40s to early 50s jacket perhaps made in Hong Kong for the Western market. And it would look great with pajama pants.

One thing to remember is that China was as devastated by WWII as Europe and was entering into a civil war bewteen the Nationalists and the Communists. There probably wasn't a lot of manufacturing on the mainland.

Thank you Hollis. I do remember my history lesson with Chiang Kai-shek as head of the nationalist party. It was devastating culturally during the latter part of the war.
There is a definite western influence in the construction of the jacket's yoke across the back which is pointed much like a western shirtI am struck with the beauty of the detail and the vivid color but then there is an element of kitsch here as well.

The design is really quite dense- the pattern , the color, the topstitching and the frogs - a wealth of detail.

That color is remarkable - really the most striking I have seen in an Asian garment in some time

looks late '40s/early '50s to me. not at all close to a pure asian style, but borrowing the "spirit of asia" for the always-hungry-for-orientalism-crazed west.

cheers :)
