Hi everyone,
This coat is so big and I wonder if it was meant as a maternity coat? I'm thinking early 60s but don't know...it looks so 'new'. Also, I don't recognize this fabric, it's almost like a soft smooth corduroy silky upholstery not sure what.
thanks in advance,
Lauren

Typical 'A' line after Yves St. Laurent's Trapeze collection from spring 1958. My mother had a nearly identical coat that she wore in the late 1950s and early 1960s when she was pregnant with me, but it wasn't intended as a maternity coat, it just doubled well as one. They look their best when they were worn over tight, fitted dresses.

I agree completely with Jonathan - these coats are very distinctive. The fabric looks like silk ottoman. It's not a maternity coat - the fullness is mostly at the back, not the front. They're just very big, some of these and as Jonathan said, they were worn over very slim fitting dresses.

Carrie, your dress really looks like it's from the same collection!
