Is this bakelite?

Wondering if this is bakelite or something else as well as what the age may be.

It does not look like bakelite to me. Some sort of plastic. I was going to say celluloid but it looks rather thick for celluloid.
I would say it is from the 40s or 50s.

I am sure more of us will give you an opinion about it.

Can you show a close up of the back surface? the curved form and textured front is just making me wonder if it's not some kind of horn or bone.

My first thought is horn as well (likely antler).
