I don't think it's true barkcloth as it isn't thick enough but I know it gets used as descriptive term now.. This link on fabrics.net is a good read (scroll down!)
I don't think this is barkcloth. There were a lot of textured
cottons produced in the 50s/60s. Grass cloth, pebble cloth,
etc Do you have a closer pic of the fabric?

I have a very similiar Hawaiian dress that is labelled as 100% acrylic. It has a slight texture, but is much lighter in weight than barkcloth. I always think of barkcloth as being in cotton also.
Hi, everyone. This is cotton, fairly lightweight...but the texture is what got me. I saw some with the same texture as mine placing 'barkcloth' in the title so I just wanted to be sure I didn't misrepresent. I didn't place mine in the title because it isn't - but mentioned that it had the rough texture - in my listing.
