Is this barkcloth?

How does one tell? It's on an early 70's Hawaaiian dress with painted metal zip...no tags however.

Thanks!

I don't think this is barkcloth. There were a lot of textured
cottons produced in the 50s/60s. Grass cloth, pebble cloth,
etc Do you have a closer pic of the fabric?

Check out the Needle Arts and Textiles Board on Ebay - there are a lot of posts on barkcloth and also some helpful
links on the side menu bar.

l always think of bark cloth being that wonderful almost textured curtain fabric form the 50's...

I have a very similiar Hawaiian dress that is labelled as 100% acrylic. It has a slight texture, but is much lighter in weight than barkcloth. I always think of barkcloth as being in cotton also.

Hi, everyone. This is cotton, fairly lightweight...but the texture is what got me. I saw some with the same texture as mine placing 'barkcloth' in the title so I just wanted to be sure I didn't misrepresent. I didn't place mine in the title because it isn't - but mentioned that it had the rough texture - in my listing.
