Is this Chinese shirt vintage?

Well- I unearthed this from the goodwill bins so it won't be heartbreaking if it isn't vintage. I just really love it! What do ya'll think? I don't know anything about foreign clothes (plus I always worry that it could be a waitress uniform or something).

That is too cute! And way too nice for a waitress uniform Unless it's a super-posh restaurant of course! I'm not familiar with Chinese labels but it's a nice woven label. Could it be 50's? :clueless: Interesting to see what other members think.

Thanks! That would be super exciting if it was 50s! Its definitely all hand embroidered on the front- very nice. It was the label that tipped me off and made me buy it in hopes of it being special.

Your little blouse is actually a pajama top - it would have come with matching solid color pants with the red trim around the bottom of the legs.

It is probably from the early to mid-80s and made of cotton or a cotton/poly blend.

I used to work near San Francisco's China Town and these type of pajamas were sold in several shops up and down the street.

Ah! That makes a lot of sense- I was thinking that the color choice was a bit strange for a shirt (the light pink and red combo).

Well there you go! I guess it's still vintage and it's nice to have the hand embroidery. It's lovely

I think it could be newer but I haven't gone shopping in Chinatown in awhile. I have a sense these are still being made and imported, so I'm not sure "how" vintage it is.

These pajamas aren't being still made in this fabric - we looked for them up and down S.F.'s China Town about five years with no luck and they used to be in all the shops.

I can't find anything about the label either and I'm guessing that if they are still being sold they would be online somewhere. I think I'll go with 80s- thanks so much everyone!

They are still making things like this today - and the labels haven't really changed in many years.

Since the US was closed to trade with China between '49 (communist takeover and total embargo) and 1971 (pingpong diplomacy and trade thaw), I'm guessing that there aren't too many "Made in China" labels from that period, at least!

If memory serves (and it often doesn't ), tags that read "Made in Taiwan" or "Made in Korea" were very common during the 70s, vs "Made in China", so 80s or newer seems more likely...

BTW, it's adorable!
