This dress has a metal zip in the back, and it has crochet lace trim. The flowers look hand embroidered. Any help would be appreciated, thanks and God bless!

I am sorry I can't help but just had to say that this dress is sooo lovely. I had something similar but not nearly as cute that sold in a heartbeat.

Good luck!

I think the embroidery would be finer if the dress were, say, from the 70s. I'm guessing later.

Not necessarily, Alison, about the metal zipper. Mexican artisans were using metal zippers for much past the 60s. I got some bags in the 80s that had old metal coat zippers, and they were made in the 80s.

I am not new to selling vintage or wearing vintage, have been in the business a while. I posted on here because I am not famaliar with this stying of a dress, the Mexican dresses. It does have a tag inside that says a size 10 (the font is old), and if it were a modern 10 it would be measuring pretty close to a modern 10, but it is an extra small. The dress smells old, and looks old. I am certain it is not 80s or 90s.

What are the measurements on the dress? Also, can you please post a photo of the label that you speak of and of any other tags in the dress. Is there any name on the zipper pull??

I would think that the sizing would be the biggest clue to your dating here. Metal zippers are still available even today, however not widely used commercially anymore. However I have found many items from Mexico with metal zippers into the 80s.

The zipper pull is Ideal, and I am a seamstress, and metal zippers are still being used today. I am going by the seams the construction, the sizing.

Well it looks 70s to me and I have had many comercial items from the 70s with metal zippers. probably early 70s.

I would "think" Mexican would be an appropiate term, but I am not the best with terms. I am still leraning. Very cute and should sell easily. It was probably yellowed because it is cotton and thats typical, and a good clean freshened her right up.

I think 70s but not too sure on the term. Very Hippie ethnic, one with nature like to me.... so not too sure on the mexican term maybe boho? Help here all!

Also as fat as metalzips, which has been discussed. In 1968 the nylon zipper was adopted commercially, though they had been around for DECADES. There were some manufatures who didnt transition immediately and others who still used meatl zippers for certain styles etc etc. I have modern dresses with metal zippers (high end dresses)

So plastic zips vs nylon zips are good indicators when Combined with other factors such as sizing, label and silhouette.

Hope that helps.

Definitely looks like a 70s Mexican "wedding" style dress to me. I've had a few of these with the lace detailing and the pin pleating. It's lovely! :)

My best guess is also going to be early 1970's on this one. If that is indeed a size label, then the dress is pretty far from modern.

One thing to keep in mind though. In the 1970's, a US size 10 would have been more generous that a 23 inch waist. This is definitely not standard sizing of that time period if that is a size tag.
