Found this at an estate sale yesterday. I think it is vintage, but it seemed out of place among the other clothing that was for sale. What do you think? There are hooks and eyes all the way down the back so I didn't hook all of them. The waist was too small to fit my dress form.
My initial impression of your pretty dress is that it is a costume, but made some time ago... perhaps in the 70s/80s? I'd like to see close-up photos of the ribbon trim and white fabric at the neckline.
But wait for those more experienced with antique clothing to weigh in with their opinions.
It looks good to me, I think its home made, but from the period, c. 1908-1910, the ribbon is commercial and all the fabrics are correct for the period.
I agree it does look to be made in the period. Possibly it was made by a beginning sewer, such as a young girl in her high school dressmaking class. This can often explain why a dress can look right for the period but also look like a costume, very simply made and not detailed or professionally sewn.
