I adore this coat and I was wondering if it was mouton lamb? I tried to take some some close ups to capture the texture of the fur. I could really use your help....:duh2:

I don't know much about types of fur but it's a great coat. :) Maybe someone else can clarify for you?

Perhaps check out the VFG Fur Guide for further assistance. Sorry I can't be more help.

Gosh, I was looking at the internet at sheared beaver and it does kind of look like that too!! When you look closely at the the fur there are little hairs throughout the thicker hair. I did look at the fur resource, but it still leaves me guessing....:icon_wall:

It's really hard to tell sometimes, especially if you're basing your opinion partially on pictures!

As I mentioned in my last post, a mouton coat of this length would weigh a TON. (I've found that vintage full-length persian lamb is often very heavy,, too--much more so than a contemporary persian lamb of equivalent size). So if it feels much heavier than what you would expect from a coat like this, that's a strong clue!

So I have a raccoon fur coat that is the same length as this one. If this coat were sheared beaver, would they be similar in weight? If yes, then the coat I have is definitely mouton because it's pretty heavy comparatively speaking.
