Is this \"New Look\" 40\'s. 50\'s, or later?

I think I see 1940's-type details, but I'd like to hear from the experts. There are no zippers or buttons; the front panel opens with snaps and a hook.

The label says "Helen of California". Somebody here has blogged about postwar California designers, but I can't remember who!

Is anyone familiar with this label? Thanks in advance for any info!
 
It's mid 50's with what looks like raglan sleeves and those turn back cuffs on the 3/4 sleeves were a strong feature. The self coloured belt and small buckle also helps to date the dress.
 
Oh, and I found that blog I was thinking of, it's on vintageclothesline's site. It's regarding a 1946 article from Saturday Evening Post about the origins of the California Apparel Creators group.
