SLAVES OF NEW YORK, a Merchant Ivory film about the early 80s art scene in a pre-gentrified NYC.....fashion show by the late great Stephen Sprouse....

It's actually a fashion movie from beginning to end...got crappy reviews in the day, but I loved it....:drinkingtoast:

Oh, how weird is it that you brought that up today? When I got my hair colored yesterday my hairdresser was all excited about going to NYC later this year to attend a book launch party being thrown by Debbie Harry & Teri Toye for the book coming out about Sprouse. Teri Toye lives here now and is good friends with Ryan, who is a pretty good friend of mine. He's going to send Teri into the shop sometime too! Maybe I'll get lucky and she'll want to consign some 80s designer stuff to me!!

And I'm sure Ryan's stories after the event will be amazing......

Pure serendipity, Ang.....I ordered the movie off Amazon....had never heard of it (apparently I live in my own little world)....and just watched it today.

Weird, because my usual choice in movies runs to the gritty postwar stuff like The Third Man, James Mason films done in the rubble, and the early Alec Guiness up to The Horses' Mouth.
