is this orange wool knit dress 1970s or 80s?

This dress is 'home knit' and I am wondering if it is from the 70s or 80s....?? it reminds me of stuff I had in the early 80s.

Is it neon or just very bright orange?
My first thought is 1970's - I have a few 1970s knit dresses, one with these graduating stripes, the other orange and both have the same fit and flare shape.
If the colour was truly neon I might be thinking it was a later throwback.

My first impression is that it is earlier. The bodice of the dress with the short sleeves and midriff ribbing and also the stripe pattern make me think late
40s. Can you tell what it is knit from, wool? acrylic? Are there any closures on the dress?

I agree with the 40s camp with dating, especially that midriff ribbing. It doesn't say 70s to me, not as I remember the 70s anyway.
