Is this Puss in Boots dress 1940s? Thanks!

I adore this dress! I am not very sure about this time period so I thought I would ask. Is this 1940s? There are very small shoulder pads, no zips but cloth buttons in the middle of the back, and the little cap sleeves. No labels, looks like handmade.

Just check out that pattern! I love it.

Thanks,
Tina

Pretty dress! What is the fabric? It looks too short for '40s - can you tell if the hem has been taken up? I'm getting a fairly modern feel from this one but it might be the short skirt and the freshness of the fabric.

It doesn't look like the hem was taken up, although the dress is all hand sewn so I am not sure how I would tell :puzzled:. I am so bad at fabric but I think it is rayon crepe??? It could have been made for a shorter person, because on me it hits right at calf level. :)

Maybe the shoulder pads would be a clue to the dress' age. Is it possible to see a should pad and maybe some idea of the fabric inside them?

It depends on how old it is - I like my '40s dresses to be 47 inches from shoulder to hem, but '50s dresses are longer.

Thank you for the close up of the photo: I think you could be right about it being rayon crepe. The shoulder pads look old. I agree with Barbara on a late '40s date with the hem taken up. If you have a photo of the hem, we can tell if it's original or not.

Just took a closeup of the hem, not sure if this is what you wanted. I hope it helps! I'm finding this interesting. :)0001pb.jpeg

I also thought 60's at first glance, due to the boat-neckline and button down back - you get a lot of 60's shirts/jackets fastening like this with the larger covered buttons, it would also suit the length better.
Possibly an older woman making it for their daughter? hence the shoulder pad style and poss. 40's fabric?
