Hi,
I appreciate any help from anyone out there..
I have a very nice Issey Miyake Jacket, 70s type, but I don't know how to describe it. The sleeves have an accordion like styling; something almost like horizontal pleats. The front is wide with wide labels, like a kimono design.
I am going to try to attach a picture here.
Again, I don't know the name for this style and I want to describe it accurately. I need to sell this; have to pay for braces for my daughter!! :-D
Thanks a lot..

If you can explain the label in details that would be helpful
What kind of fabric is the pleating? Does it feel like silk, if so it is Miyake's custom hand steam pleating.
Are you saying only the sleeves are pleated?
Is it sized by number? ie: 1, 2, 3 or S M L?
What if anything else does the label say in the right hand inside side seam?
Did you do a search on ebay?
Is it hand painted?
Before you put the date of 1970s in your description if you could post a picture or send me one .... If you are going to date an Issey Miyake having accuracy definately is important.
Up to 1976 Miyake was highly influenced by the Kimono so you may be right but few pleats were used as seen in today's Pleats Please line...

ISSEY JACKET

Hi,
Thank you all for your replies!
Well, I tried to upload a photo here, but I don't see it, perhaps I am not doing that correctly.
The label is white on burgundy. the size says M and 100%wool. It may be hand painted; did not see any like this on ebay. How do I send you each (Michelle and Chris) a picture so that you may see the jacket? Trying this again, and thanks so much!

ISSEY Again..

Forgive me, I forgot to add more detail in the last post. I hope the picture can be viewed.
The sleeves are not pleated, but seamed in a graduated sort of way so that the seam sticks up and does not lay flat; hope that makes sense. The fabric tag states wool, but it feels rough. I assume this is a women's jacket since the tag states M. I will attach a more clear pic of the label.
A bit about me; I buy and sell to keep up my fashion habit, I am a junkie and I adore anything that looks Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn. I like some 70s also, but nothing loud or very ostentatious. I know some things, but am always learning, which is why I am very thankful to have found this site!
Merry Christmas and have a great night! I will check the posts tomorrow, we are driving to Florida for vacation and I am hoping my husband lets me go shopping! :-D

Very very nice! I would go with 1975 on this piece when miyake was highly influenced by Sueko Otsuka, a well known traditional designer of kimonos in Japan... There are several pictures of Otsuka in one of her own kimonos posing with a model in Miyake's work. The kimono worn by Otsuka is similar to this jacket you have. So the sleeves are more folded then pleated?
A very nice jacket, it should do quite well. Not the earliest label but one that is harder to find then most.
I would call it kimono inspired, and perhaps the word oversized. I am assuming the measurements are quite generous..
I have to run, I am sorry, but please feel free to email me at [email protected] if you have any other questions.

Good luck with it!

Michelle
